Description:UPDATE 3/20/10: At 7 months old, Vanna continues to do wonderfully and is blossoming into a beautiful, well behaved little girl. She is now up to 45 lb and is growing like a weed! She has now passed both basic and intermediate obedience training and will continue to attend classes to keep her well socialized as well as learning more sign language. She is starting to learn "come" from a distance and is working on "stay". Vanna loves to have her ears scratched as she lays on her pillow while her foster family watches TV in the evenings. She has tons of personality and has already shown that she is a terrific little companion.
UPDATE 11/16/09: Vanna is doing great. At about 13.5 weeks old, she's now up to about 18 lb. Her foster mom says that housetraining is coming along nicely and since Vanna is a smart little gal, she is picking up hand signs quickly. She is learning to walk nicely on a leash, can "sit" and has learned "down". Vanna has learned to like her crate and now sees it as a place to get away and to take her puppy naps. Vanna is a normal Boxer pup in that she's very active and playful. She plays well with the other dogs in the home and with the children. She is up to date on her age appropriate vaccines and will be spayed some time next month.
Say hello to Vanna!!
Vanna is an adorable little white Boxer girl with a docked tail and naturally floppy ears. At only 8 weeks old, Vanna weighs about 11 lb. Vanna is deaf.
Vanna was surrendered to us by a breeder who felt a rescue organization could do a better job at placing a deaf dog. She's quite the little cutie pie! She is very sweet and seems to have no fear. She is already trying to run with the big dogs in her foster home. Vanna is now up to date on her age appropriate vaccines. As we get to know this little squirt better, we will update here.
Please know that with a deaf dog it is EXTREMELY necessary that an adoptive home have a fenced yard. A guardian with deaf dog experience would be ideal. At the very least, a guardian that is willing to make a serious commitment to learning to communicate, train and live with a deaf dog is essential. A great source of information on deaf dogs is at the
Deaf Dog Education Action Fund.
